Cream - Prince and the New Power Generation, 1991
This is it Cream, get on top |
The artist formerly known as 'Prince', as we all know, adopted this unpronounceable symbol for his name back in 1993. Now you're expecting me to explain WHY, aren't you? Well, as the now back to Prince explained, Warner Bros. trademarked his given name for commercial gain, thus depriving the artist of his creative identity. In frustration, he used the hybrid male/female symbol (no comment), often referred to as Love Symbol #2. This was apparently his second choice. And speaking of commercial gain, his new image/name/symbol did just that for old what-his-name.... There's no doubt about it, Prince Rogers Nelson is a talented individual. He wrote songs for Sheila Easton, Celine Dion and The Bangles (Manic Monday). His own hits include: 1999, Little Red Corvette, When Doves Cry, Purple Rain and Raspberry Beret. He's tried his hand at acting, the movie Purple Rain being a good vehicle to promote himself...and promote himself is something that prince has always been good at. He was the half-time act at Superbowl XLI in 2007, and he even has his own line of perfume.
As for Cream, the song went to number one in November of 1991. It was recorded with his then-current band Prince and the New Power Generation. As for the video, well it certainly was an eye-opener. Where does he find those women?
