New Musik was a band from London, England, who got their start on the British TV show, Top of the Pops. There were active only from 1979 to 1982, but they managed a few hits in the UK, including Straight Lines, Living by Numbers and This World of Water. Most of their song's lyrics touched on subjects of political and environmental interest. The band's unique sound was produced through the use of early synthesizers such as the Prophet 5 and a Yamaha CS80. Unfortunately, without much promotional support and international air-play, their success was short-lived. After New Musik's demise, singer and songwriter Tony Mansfield went on to a successful career helping to produce such acts as The B-52s, The Damned, Naked Eyes, Captain Sensible and Aztec Camera.
