The Last of the Secret Agents - Nancy Sinatra, 1966
He's never caught one spy untold |
Nancy is the daughter of the very famous Frank Sinatra. She began her career in the early 1960s, but had limited success in Europe and Japan. Then she released These Boots Are Made for Walkin', and her musical star was on the rise. Thanks to a promotional clip of Sinatra singing in go-go boots and a micro-mini skirt, Nancy became an instant sex symbol. It was much later in 1995 that she posed for Playboy magazine at the age of 54 (sorry - no pictures available)
Along with "Boots" climbing to the top of the charts, she also hit number one with a family duet; father and daughter released Somethin' Stupid in 1967. Although these were both huge hits covered by numerous artists, I chose The Last of the Secret Agents. This song struck me as an amusing sign of the times - the cold war was in full swing back then, and spies were all the rage. Whether it was the slightly more serious James Bond movies, or the silly Get Smart series, the coolest thing to be back in the sixties, was a secret agent...And loving it!
