Get Out of Your Lazy Bed - Matt Bianco, 1984
Get up
Get up Get out of your lazy bed Before I count to three - step to it Baby She goes out every night 'till the morning light
And she sleeps all day So come on and get up
I won't say it again - I'll drag you out Get up So come on and get up (Get up) Get up |
Matt Bianco was most popular in the mid-eighties as a Latin/Jazz style group. They were formed in the UK, and played mostly to European audiences. There was nobody named Matt in the ensemble; the name was made up to sound like a spy or secret agent. This theme runs through a few of their songs, including Who's Side Are You On?
The early direction of the band came from an unknown Polish singer named Basia Trzetrzelewska. Her voice and style provided a jazz-like sound that band founders Mark Reilly and Danny White hadn't anticipated, but gladly embraced. The result was the very successful debut album, Whose side Are You On?
There is a fun, clever attitude in the lyrics of Matt Bianco's music. I always smile when I hear Sneaking Out the Back Door, and Get Out of Your Lazy Bed. The latter did reasonably well at #15 on the UK Ssingles Chart, and played randomly in North America on Alternative radio stations. The song was picked up as the theme for a New Zealand children's TV show in the 80s and 90s called What Now.
I wonder all those lazy kids really DID get out of bed, and watch morning cartoons...
