I'm Running After You - Major Hooples Boarding House, 1975
I’m running after you How was I supposed to know (chorus) Now I know how much it means (chorus) Ever night I dream about you |
A group called the Shan-de-leers was formed in a Cambridge, Ontario high school in 1967. With permission from the publishers of the Major Hoople comic strip, they changed their name to Major Hooples Boarding House, and turned professional. After a few minor releases through Polydor, they signed with Axe Records in 1975 and finally made their mark with I'm Running After You. This was soon followed up with You Girl. Founding vocalist David Lodge left the band in 1976 to pursue other projects; notably co-writing the international hit by Peter Schilling, Major Tom (Coming Home). Lodge was replaced by James Leroy, ex of another Canadian 70s group, Denim. The only female member of the band, keyboard player Gail Selkirk went on with a solo career. The group shortened its name to Boarding House, and specialized in Adult Contemporary singles on into the 1980s. (Of some note - I guess - they performed with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony in 1982.) Re-forming in 1987, Major Hooples did the nostalgia circuit for awhile, but disbanded in the early 90s. |
