Toronto-born Jamie James went to Los Angeles in 1975, and briefly joined the well-established band Steppenwolf in 1977. Soon after, he became one of the founding members of the New Wave trio, The Kingbees.
In 1980, the Kingbees self-titled, debut album lasted 12 weeks on Billboard's top 200, and led to the release of two singles: Shake Bop and My Mistake, the latter making it to #81 on the Billboard Singles chart. Since the band was led by the Canadian born singer Jamie James (who also wrote the song), they qualified for Canadian Content (CanCon), and the subsequent radio play helped send the song to #24 in Canada.
Their next album, The Big Rock, spawned a tour, an appearance on Dick Clark's American Bandstand and a cameo role in the movie The Idolmaker. But by 1982, the band had split up.
In the year 2000, Jamie James was a member of DQ and The Sharks featuring actor/musician Dennis Quaid.
