The Curly Shuffle - Jump 'N The Saddle, 1983
When me and my friends go out on the town |
Jump 'N The Saddle was a country pop group from Chicago. They had a minor hit with The Curly Shuffle in 1983, but that was about all for this one-trick pony of a band. However, their one and only hit reached number 15 on the Billboard 100 in 1984. "The Curly Shuffle" is of course an homage to the brilliant comedy act, The Three Stooges. These guys got their start back in 1925, with a vaudeville act named Ted Healy and His Stooges. Ted's shtick was to perform songs while two brothers, Moe and Shemp (NO Curly yet) interrupted him. At this point, he would verbally and physically abuse them. Soon Larry joined in the fun, and all they had to do make history, was dump Ted; the studios thought the three guys were the real entertainment, anyway. This fabulous trio lasted from 1930 to 1970, although the term trio is misleading - there were six players in all over those 40 years. Moe and Larry stayed consistent, but Curly and Shemp played musical chairs over the years. There were attempts to continue past the 1970s, but with the passing of both Larry Fine and Moe Howard in 1975, the show was over. We will now bow our heads in respect for these great men. ( Boink! Ouch...spread out, you numbskulls...) |
