Money (That's What I Want) - The Flying Lizards, 1979

The best things in life are free
But you can give them to the birds and bees
I want money
That's what I want
That's what I want
That's what I want

Your love gives me such a thrill
But your love won't pay my bills
I want money
That's what I want
That's what I want
That's what I want

Money don't get everything it's true
What it don't get I can't use
I want money
That's what I want
That's what I want
That's what I want

I want money
I want lots of money
In fact I want so much money
Give me your money
Just give me money

This song was originally an early motown hit, but was covered by bands such as the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam and The Rolling Stones. The Flying Lizards, however, recorded their version in a make-shift studio in one afternoon. They placed ash-trays and paper-weights on the piano's strings to achieve that very unique sound. The band's vocalist, Deborah Upton, was an old friend from art school who simply turned up and volunteered to sing the lead.

The Lizard's version of Money was featured in the movie Lord of War, as well as Charlie's Angels, Empire Records, and The Wedding Singer.
