Double-entendre [Fr] - a term with two meanings, esp. when one is risque - Webster's New World Dictionary.One of the world's better blues-based hard rock acts, Aerosmith has been going at it full-tilt since 1970. This Boston-based super group is fronted by Steve Tyler, who has become a celebrity in his own right. But back in 1975, the release of Toys in the Attic brought Aerosmith into the mainstream. The album itself was an 8-times-over platinum success, and singles Sweet Emotion and Walk This Way got significant radio play. Not released as a single was Big Ten Inch Record, originally an R&B tune written in 1952 by Fred Weismantel. If you haven't figured it out, the 10 inch record refers to the old 78s (or 78 rpm recorded disks originally made from shellac before vinyl came along) Whether the original song was meant to have a double meaning is up for debate, but Steven Tyler sure had fun with the lyrics. By the early '80s, the band wasn't doing very well, mostly because of drug addiction and uninspired song-writing. Several members quit, but in 1987, Aerosmith came storming back with the album Permanent Vacation. The band was drug free by then, having all attended rehab. It must have been quite a shock for them to walk onto concert stage completely straight.... |
