In a bizarre and frightening, post-apocalyptic world, all the rules have suddenly changed. Giant rats terrorize what used to be the smoking area behind the old gym, at "Our Lady of Perpetual Optimism". There isn't much left of the actual building.

Sara has changed. An unknown power is slowly turning the surviving creatures into robots. Of necessity, she has learned to use weapons - any weapons at all - to defend herself.

One day, she discovers an odd patch of ground; an area where the old earth seems to be regenerating itself. There may actually be some hope for the future.
